Accelerated Learning

7165WZ74WAL._SL160_We live in a hurried and stressed world. We forget to “smell the flowers” and ever to breathe. When we are stressed the last thing we want to hear is “relax”. This merely makes us more tense. We are less inclined for any self improvement ideas and we tend to do what we’ve always done. We are not receptive. Learning at this time might be nothing more than memorization.

Accelerated learning deals with 3 key ingredients; how to achieve a relaxed yet receptive mind set, and how to presentaton of information in new ways that involve both sides of the brain.

Over the course of five decades, Nightingale-Conant has been a leader in bringing the benefits of new technologies to our customers. We were among the first to utilize the unique capabilities of the audiocassette, for example, which allowed listeners to learn in their cars, in their homes, or wherever they felt the desire to fulfill their unique potential.

Don’t Wait Around to Improve Your Life

51R0MiJW4ML._SL160_According to tradition, people put the most thought into self improvement around New Year’s Day. It’s just convenient to plan your resolutions and goals in accordance with a brand new calendar year. Still, there’s no reason to let convention and arbitrary dates influence your life. It’s never too early to brainstorm self improvement ideas and to implement them in your everyday life.

If your goal is to feel better, try a variety of techniques designed to improve your mental and physical well-being. Exercise routines are beneficial not just for the muscles and cardiovascular system but also for peace of mind. Try doing a few more crossword puzzles than normal, reading a lengthy novel without quitting or working through a book of brainteasers. The more active you stay in mind and body, the more productive and content you will be.

Best of all, the studies have shown that after only 2 weeks the brain showed increased efficiency. Both crossword puzzles and brainteasers are good memory exercises to stimulate the brain.

Build Your Own Mnemonic Device

My struggles in math class have been well documented over time. For embarrassing proof, just ask my mother about those report cards that were riddled with Cs, Ds and even the occasional failing grade. It wasn’t until 10th grade that my trigonometry teacher introduced me to the wonder of mnemonic devices. She told it to our class in the form of a joke about a squaw who hurt her foot and needed to put it in a hot water bath upon returning home.

According to the teacher, this squaw needed to “soak a toe” – which she pronounced as SOH CAH TOA. This mnemonic device was meant to enhance your memory by building a link between familiar ideas and mental touchstones. To this day I remember that sine is opposite over hypotenuse, cosine is adjacent over hypotenuse, and tangent is opposite over adjacent.
